Primeiro é preciso verificar se possui o jdk instalado e a versão, abra o terminal e digite: java -version
O resultado será algo como abaixo se tiver a ultima versão instalada.
java version "1.8.0_91"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_91-b14)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.91-b14, mixed mode)
Tive este mesmo problema, para resolver eu editei o arquivo de configuração do Netbeans8.1 localizado em "/usr/local/netbeans-8.1/etc/netbeans.conf"
Apontei o diretorio do jdk adicionando a linha: netbeans_jdkhome="/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle/" bem no fim
do arquivo, bem abaixo da linha: netbeans_jdkhome="/usr"
O meu arquivo ficou conforme abaixo.
