Erro ao definir resolução Kubuntu 10.04

Galera, to tentando fazer o meu kubuntu 10.04 ficar com a resolucao d 1280x1024.

faço todos os comandos
cvt
xrandr --newmode ...

soh q na hora d fazer xrandr --addmode da o seguinte erro:

$ sudo xrandr --addmode LVDS1 "1280x1024_60.00"
