gnome-ppp não da erro e desconectar

oi pessoal não estou conseguindo fazer funcionar o meu modem no ubuntu 8.10... vocês poderia me ajuda ????

O erro é:

Meu problema é semelhante. Uso o MD300 da SonyEricsson no Ubuntu 8.10. Esta é a mensagem que aparece:

Pessoal eu também utilizo o modem MD300 da SonyEricsson, no meu caso no ubuntu 8.4.
acompanhei um tutorial da internet para configurar o modem e tal, depois que eu abria o gnome-ppp ele desconectava logo em seguida.
Resolvi o problema clicando em configuração(no gnome-ppp), em seguida na aba modem clicar em "Sequências de inicilização" e colocar:

init2 AT+CFUN=1
init3 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
init4 AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","claro.com.br"

é exatamente assim que está meu gnome-ppp. É importante verificar também se nos arquivos de configuração
as aspas estão certas, quando copiadas do HTML (em tutorial da web) podem ser interpretadas pelo editor de texto, ai o código não funciona como deveria, então revise o código antes
de sair, reescrevendo as aspas se necessário.
