Amigos, estou com um problema na minha placa de vídeo NVidia FX 5700, elá só aceita a resoluçãoo 1024x768, como faço para fixar a configuração 1280x1024, que acho ideal....

olá tente o comando sax2-vesa no terminal. Geralmente ele busca a rsolução máxima possível.

Vai em Sistema > Preferências > Resolução de tela, ou então vai no settings do drive da nvidia que la tem as opções também, depois de configurar por la tem uma opção Apply e tem também pra ti salvar no xorg.conf.

Fui no Sistema > Prferências > Resolução de tela e o máximo que aparece é 1024x768 e nas configurações do Nvidia tem a resolução 1280x800 porém quando aplico essa configuração e mando salvar o xorg.conf ao reiniciar ele volta novamente para a resolução 1024x768.

A resolução 1280x800 não fica perfeita, a lateral direita fica com as imagens esticadas.

Será que o driver de vídeo da Nvidia que baixei não aceita resolução maior?

Com relação ao comando sax2-vesa no ubuntu não reconheceu o comando, tenho que instalar algum pacote?

Olá amigo, fui no Synaptic para instalar o pacote sax2, encontrou o
libsope-xml4.4
libxml-namespacesupport-perl
libxml-sax-expat-perl
libxml-sax-perl
libxml-sax-writer-perl

marquei todos e mesmo assim não encontrou o comando sax2 ou sax2-vesa no terminal.

Pessoal ajuda ai, o máximo que conseguir foi 1280x800, mais a tela fica esticada, um pouco melhor que antes.

Conseguir....

No menu Sistema > Prefrerências > Resolução de Tela só libera o ajuste para 1280x1024 ou resolucções maiores se no arquivos xorg.conf o range para ajuste horizontal e vertical forem maiores, no inicio a resolução foi configurada para:

HorizSync 28.0 - 51.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 60.0

Após alterar para:

HorizSync 28.0 - 80.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 150.0

Liberou as resoluções mais altas, então conseguir configurar 1280x1024, porém na tela de entrada onde digita a senha a resolução que foi ajustada não funciona, é preciso tecla Ctrl+Alt+ - ou Ctrl+Alt+ +, e após isso a configuração da tela fica normal.

Fica em uma pergunta, como ajusta para que a configuração 1280x1024 fique também na tela inicial de sessão?

Como a resolução configurada anterior é superior o monitor não suporta, a tela inicial de sessão sempre incial com a maior tela suportada. Então encontrei a resolução adequada para o meu monitor:

HorizSync 28.0 - 70.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 90.0
