Assim como qualquer repositório não mantido oficialmente pelos desenvolvedores do Ubuntu, devem ser usadas apenas quando necessário e com cautela.
O mesmo vale para repositórios adicionais em outras distribuições e ao fazer download de pacotes/softwares em qualquer sistema.

O problema para mim, é o usuário sair enlouquecido, disparando comandos que encontra em algum canto na rede sem pensar no que esta fazendo.

SE souber usar não vai @#$%& seu Ubuntu
Na prática só usar p/ programas que não existem nos repositórios como Grub-Customizer e alguns temas/ícones p/ personalizar o Ubuntu-LTS não terá problemas graves!
