instalação do postgres8.3.1

Eu instalei o postgres8.3.1 no Ubuntu8.04, mas não consigo iniciá-lo na linha de comando. Aparece a seguinte mensagem:

LOG: database system is ready to accept

Depois não faze mais nada.

Copie o prompt todo, conforme mostrado abaixo:

postgres@marcio-laptop:/usr/local/pgsql$ cd bin/
