Mensagens diferentes para root e user comum, baseado no Backtrack R3 [Openbox].
Existem 2 scripts logo abaixo, tome cuidado para NÃO COPIAR os 2 ao mesmo tempo, é preciso salvar em arquivos diferentes.
1. Primeiramente pegue o primeiro (óbvio? kk) script e cole no /root/.bashrc.
Ao logar como root você verá um terminal personalizado. Mude de acordo como quiser. Screenshot:

2. Cole o segundo script abaixo em /etc/skel/.bashrc.
Este servirá de exemplo para todos os outros usuários adicionados no sistema pelo root.
Se você já possui usuários, basta procurar o .bashrc dentro de sua /home/"usuário" e alterá-lo para o segundo script.
Quando você logar como usuário comum o script mostrará assim:
