Seu sistema está ok com a nvidia no ambiente gráfico. Eu não sei qual browser você está usando. Se for o firefox entre com about:support na parte Graphics como está a parte de aceleração. Se estiver ativado "1/1", não creio que há nada que possa ser feito. Caso esteja 0/1, dê uma olhada aqui:

Qual seu WM? KDE, GNome? Tente um mais leve como fluxbox, icewm e teste novamente. Esgotei minhas possibilidades. Se resolver com alguma outra dica, não esquece de compartilhar aqui.

fiz isso nas primeiras tentativas, esse problema que tenho é antigo desde o ubuntu 9, parei varias vezes de usar o linux por causa disso, ate hoje não achei solução, mas agora to determinado a resolver, alguem tem que saber alguma solução, não é possível que não exista...

Rapaz, testei aqui no firefox e no chrome. No firefox ficou ruim, igual o seu. No chrome ficou igual a outra imagem.

Dá uma olhada neste testes aqui, como fica seu firefox: http://madebyevan.com/webgl-water/ ??

Estou achando que existe uma incompatibilidade do firefox com o jogo, "just like that". Por que o teste funcionou muito bem.

Realmente agora que você falou reparei que todo conteúdo baseado em flash player ta com mesmo problema, mas no chrome roda legal, tenho o chrome instalado aqui mas tava ruim também, agora ficou excelente a imagem como você falou...
Bom se a solução por hora é usar o chrome ta resolvido.
